James (Jim) A. Small
May 1, 1927 – October 11, 2021
Are your knives dull? Mower blades? Jim Small use to do it all at his Jim’s Sharp All Shop. He retired two years ago at 92. Jim, age 94 was born in Ellensburg, WA. He lived in California, Alaska, and finally residing in Ephrata, WA since 1950. He was an Army Veteran, and his specialty was HAM Radio Operations stationed mostly in Puerto Rico. Being a long-standing citizen of Ephrata, he was a mechanic, did some construction and was a fine woodworker and gardener. He knew how to fix all and was a great resource to many. Jim and his wife previously owned the Photoshop Film Developing Company in Ephrata in the 1950’s where they met. Jim and Jerry both helped to launch the Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 85 in 1968, training boaters for safe operations and safety inspections. They had many travels to the San Juan Islands with their boat and good friends Ron and Ruth Whitman with whom they had twin boats twice.
Their favorite place was Banks Lake, where they leased a dock for 40 years at Coulee City.
Jim is survived by his granddaughter Lisa Dlubala. Preceded in death by his parents Thelma Small, Marie and John Salamon, his wife Geraldine (Jerry) Small and his sister Barbara.
Jim out lived most of his close friends from the past but those of us that have come to know him, will certainly miss him! Be sure to think of Jim the next time you go fishing! There will be a “Small” Celebration of Life at Jim’s favorite restaurant, Time Out Pizza from 1-3pm on
October 30 th .
