Geneva Mae (McDaniel) Scott
Born in Wellston, OK on11/25/1915 to Mary Susan Wells and Samuel Bailey McDaniel. She went to be with the Lord peacefully on 5/23/ 2025.
Her brothers and sisters Thelma (Tom), Eunice, Samuel Jr., Ada, Marion, John Thomas, and Abraham. The family and the nanny (Geneva) piled into a car from Oklahoma to seek a better life out west. They settled in Gold Bar Washington. Geneva’s short marriage at a young age to A. Verlinde and had 2 children Eldrie Henry Jr. And Barbara Jean Verlinde. Bravely, Geneva left the marriage.
Geneva met her soul mate Noel Albert Scott, and they then married Oct. 31, 1936. Their children Rondo (Peggy Reid), Roger, and Shirley (Greg Hansen). Grandchildren: Pam Mancheni, David Scott (deceased), Allison Mallonee, Larry Scott, Shirley Scott, Gregory and Steven Bruce Scott (deceased), Cara Scott, Dana Armstrong, Roland Middleton, Rondo Middleton, and Marcia Shortridge. Several Great Grandchildren and even 6 generations with Great Great Grandchildren.
Growing up, she talked about her mother being a midwife and she had to watch the children while her mother helped the other mother’s give birth. She walked through woods day and night and crossed a dangerous bridge with younger siblings every day. There was hardship and she survived stronger. In school she was accepted in sports because there weren’t enough boys to go to district. She pole-vaulted and played basketball. Again, so brave. As an adult, she worked at several jobs-including a welder in Everett during World War 2, worked at Larson Air Force Base, and Deitson’s Grocery. Geneva and Noel had several different homes and ranches in Washington. One of our favorite locations was the farm in Zillah, they made it magical.
Geneva and Noel were married 75 years before he died in 2012. They lived in Moses Lake off and on since 1949. They had deep roots; Noel retired from the Parks Department and Geneva was a lifelong member of Eastern Stars with contributions to this area. They traveled frequently and visited family across the United States, and she continued to travel late in life. They had big holidays. She loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren immensely. They took in family, for sometimes months at a time, and always had something to eat and coffee for anyone who showed up. Geneva drove her car until she was 99, very independent. She lived at home with her son Roger Scott until a few years ago then she resided in adult care homes. Thank you, Roger Scott, for taking care of his parents for over 20 years so they could live at home for as long as possible. 109 years of witnessing the changes in this world are too many to list. What didn’t change was her deep love for her family. Geneva Strong until the end.
