Laurie McDermid Barker Obituary

In Loving Memory of Laurie Lee McDermid Barker

July 2, 1954 – November 25, 2024

Laurie Lee McDermid Barker was a woman of extraordinary resilience, boundless love, and unwavering determination. Born in Oregon City, Oregon, to John (Jack) Thomas McDermid and Charlotte Madeline McDermid, Laurie grew up in a world full of challenges that she met with resourcefulness and grace.

Her childhood was spent in Oregon City, later moving to Moro, Oregon, where she thrived amidst rolling hills, friendly neighbors, and a lively home filled with animals like her beloved horse Polly Anna and two mischievous goats, Homer, and Jethro. Laurie remained deeply connected to her family, especially her mother, whose warmth, and delicious baked treats became cornerstones of Laurie’s own family traditions.

Laurie’s career journey reflected her tireless work ethic and adaptability. Over the years, she held a wide variety of roles that showcased dedication and skill. After retirement, she devoted her time to caring for her cherished grandchildren.

Laurie’s personal life was just as full as her professional one. She married Hugh (Tom) Thomas McIntyre in 1974, and together they had two children, Erin Kathleen, and Ryen Rena. Though their marriage ended, Laurie’s love for her family never wavered. Later, she married Thomas Harold Barker III in 1999, with whom she welcomed their youngest daughter, Samantha Rea. Laurie’s life was anchored in her love for her children and her six grandchildren: Camryn, Gage, Molly, Jackson, Charlotte, and Adeline, who brought her endless joy and pride.

Some of her most cherished memories include a chance encounter with Clint Eastwood, a fun highlight of her adventurous and vibrant life.

Above all, Laurie loved her family and cherished the time spent creating memories with them, whether it was baking holiday treats, enjoying her grandchildren’s hugs, or sharing stories of her life.

Laurie faced life’s challenges with remarkable strength, and perseverance. She often joked about coming back to haunt her loved ones with her humor and warmth, a testament to her wit and love.

Laurie leaves behind her three children, Erin (Matt), Ryen (Derek), and Samantha (Marty), and her beloved grandchildren, Camryn, Gage, Molly, Jackson, Charlotte, and Adeline. And her sister Kathleen Keesey, nieces Charla Harden, Amanda Maher and nephew Clayton Keesey.

Her love, light, and indomitable spirit will remain in the hearts of all who knew her.
