Matthew Laybourn-Taylor Obituary

March 7, 1982 — June 5, 2025

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Matthew Kay Joseph Laybourn-Taylor, age 43, who left us on June 5, 2025, in Moses Lake, Washington. Born on March 7, 1982, in Stockton, California, Matthew was a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend whose zest for life and unwavering love for his family will be deeply missed.

Matthew was the proud son of Michael Laybourn (Maggie Laybourn) and Collette Caswell. He is survived by his devoted wife of 20 years, Stephani, and their four beautiful daughters: TaBitha (19), Ezzmirelda (18), Kaylee (16), and Adyson (9). He was also a cherished brother to Courtney Woffinden of Salt Lake City, Utah, and a loving half-brother to Rebekah Laybourn and Carson Laybourn of Idaho Falls, Idaho. Matthew was preceded in death by his sister, Cylvia in 2014, whose memory he carried with him throughout his life.

A graduate of Layton High School in Layton, Utah, Class of 2000, Matthew was known for his intellect and curiosity. He had an insatiable love for reading and was often found immersed in books or listening to audiobooks. His passion for knowledge extended beyond literature; he was a hands-on tinkerer who loved to work on cars and always had multiple projects in progress. His collection of toys, particularly Legos, was a testament to his playful spirit and love for creativity.

Matthew’s heart was as big as his interests. He was a proud "girl dad," relishing every moment spent with his daughters. He never gave up hope of one day having a son, but his love for his daughters was boundless. He was a man who loved animals, especially dogs, and always had at least one furry companion by his side. Matthew was also known as an early riser who eagerly awaited the release of new Lego sets, often rushing to the store to be among the first in line.

Known for his warmth and friendliness, Matthew had a unique talent for conversation. He could turn a stranger into a friend with just a few words and had the remarkable ability to make anyone feel at ease. His big heart extended to everyone he met; he was never too busy to lend an ear or offer assistance to those in need.

Despite the pain he endured from a crippling back injury, Matthew remained resilient and hopeful. He never let his struggles define him; instead, he exemplified strength and perseverance. His determination and refusal to give up on life was inspiring to all who knew him.

Matthew’s funeral service will be held on June 13, 2025, at 2:30 PM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- Day Saints 351 Yonezawa Blvd, Moses Lake, Washington. Friends, family, and anyone whose life Matthew touched are invited to gather and celebrate his life.
