Sharon M Schrag, 80, entered into the Kingdom of Heaven on June 29, 2024. Sharon spent her final days with her family.
Sharon was born in Prosser, Wa to Alice Marie Elstad and James Riley Cornwell Sr. on March 10, 1944. She spent her childhood and teenage years in Prosser, where she met her lifelong best friends Linda Falconer and Erma Waggoner Lee. Shortly after graduating high school in 1962, Sharon moved with her parents and eight siblings to Warden Wa, where she became a photographer for the Warden Register. After many years Sharon moved to Arizona for a while before returning home to the Columbia Basin.
Sharon loved her family. She was the 3rd oldest in a family of nine children and being raised in a large family made her strong willed and stubborn. One of her favorite things was a big family reunion or party. You could usually find her in the middle of the circle talking to everyone around her. She was always happy to help with anything needed to make the party happen.
Sharon’s life was not always easy, and she faced many adversities. She had many hardships but fought through them the best she knew how. She refused to let life be anything but what she wanted it to be. She will be remembered for her strength in the face of adversity and for her resilience. Her favorite past times were painting, spending as much time as she could with family, and spending time with her beloved cats.
Sharon settled down in Warden, Wa where she lived out her years, near her family. Her grandchildren will always remember her for her popcorn movie nights, endless supply of arts and craft and dancing in the living room to “Boot Scoot and Boogie”. Her love for them was apparent and she beamed with pride and joy talking to anyone who would listen about how proud she was of them.
She is preceded in death by her husband Percy Schrag, her life partner later in life Brian Draney, parents Alice Elstad and James Cornwell Sr, her Stepfather Ernest Elstad, her brother James Riley Cornwell Jr, her sisters Theresa Mallonee, Rebecca Engles, Kathy Cornwell, and Cecilia Cornwell and her son Patrick Elstad.
She is survived by her brothers, Joseph Cornwell, Jerome (Sharon) Cornwell, Her sister Arlene Craig, her children Rhonda (Tim) Bauer, Polly Pruneda, and Peter (Yuliya) Weldon, Daughter in law Cindey Elstad, step daughters Darlene Schrag and Lorraine (Garth) Barnum, her grandchildren Nathan (Marisol) Pruneda, Ceira (Mitchell) Jensen, Arrick Elstad, Alexa (Randall) Peterson, Ricky (Joanna) Pruneda, Devon Leavitt, Savion Elstad, Fyodor Weldon, Esfir Weldon, 11 great-grand children and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held on July 15, 2024 at 3297 Road U SE, Warden WA 98857 at 11 am, with a reception to follow.
